Saturday night I went out with a bunch of work people.
We met at
Artorios in Norwich, a Mediterranean taverna who offer the usual pizza and pasta, as well as a selection of meze. This is the same as Tapas in Spain, or Antipasti in Italy- a selection of small dishes to share with friends, so you get to experience various different tastes. I've been there before and tried the meze menu, but this time I opted for a warm goats cheese salad with roasted vegetables and caramelised onions.

It was an ok salad- I loved the goats cheese and roasted vegetables, but the salad dressing was too vinegary for me so I didn't end up finishing it.
I had a few slices of pitta bread and dip too- taramasalata, hummus and tzatziki, nom! I actually ended up pouring some of the tzatziki over my remaining salad to tone down the vinegary-ness, which sort of worked for a bit.
After the meal we headed to the Wetherspoons on Riverside for a few drinks. It was a little chilly but felt summery to be sitting outside by the river!
I had a couple of Southern Comfort and lemonades...

Hey Elspeth! |

Elspeth and Amelia- two lovely geos who I worked with offshore π |
It was a fun evening, although I'm finding it hard to balance being sociable and having a good time with my desire to keep up a healthy lifestyle. I don't want to get obsessed, but it's motivating to see the progress I've made with running and toning up, and I can't help thinking I don't want to spoil it by drinking or eating excessively- it's especially tough when out with friends to resist the cheesy garlic bread starters, or indulgent chocolate cake desserts and liqueur coffees!! And when staying out late means I sleep in and don't make it to my gym class or scheduled morning run, it puts me off.
How do you deal with having a good time with friends and sticking to your healthy eating and exercise goals?
I guess the simple answer is just to keep up with the exercise and allow treats in moderation- life is boring without any fun at all! π
