My thoughts:
Skyfall is not your typical Bond movie but I really enjoyed it. It's had mixed responses, mostly positive, but remains controversial because of it's lack of hot girls, gadgets and fast cars (although there is an Aston Martin, which sadly doesn't survive the film). However, I think that this means the film brings more personality and back-story to the characters - the use of Bond's family home in the final showdown is emotional, as well as his relationship with M. There is more depth to the plot, rather than just killing bad guys, and Daniel Craig is a dynamite Bond, showing how seriously the character can be taken whilst still creating humorous moments.
Of course there is still plenty of action, guns, and explosions. The opening sequence is definitely fast paced with motorbike chases across rooftops, and fighting on the roof of a train. I especially loved the opening credits, with Adele's theme song, where the complex swirling graphics fitted really well with the storyline.
You also get the classic Bond one-liners, and witty repartee which is nicely done, especially between Bond and the new Q. And the unpredictability of the insane Silva lends a different dimension to a Bond villain, where you still fear what will happen next.
The theme of "the old ways are the best" runs throughout Skyfall, and the end of the film nicely wraps things up, and whilst I did see it coming it was still a welcome conclusion.
Skyfall is definitely one of the best Bond films to date, and a must-see this winter.
What are your thoughts? Love Bond?
