A Kick in the Rear

I've been slacking a bit on the exercise front recently, no, scratch that, I haven't done ANY exercise (besides walking to work) since we moved house or really since Christmas! I am officially feeling like a lazy bum.

I feel like I am the queen of making excuses- "I have no money to join a gym", "it's cold/snowy/rainy outside", "I don't feel comfortable running in the dark in a strange neighbourhood", "I'm tired after work" etc etc...
Some of these are more legitimate than others- moving house is expensive! And I genuinely didn't feel comfortable running somewhere I didn't know very well yet late at night. However, that wouldn't have stopped me doing an exercise DVD or some core work in the comfort of my own lounge.
Yet here we are...
So yesterday I decided I needed something to give me a bit of a kick in the rear, and get me back on track. I am really proud of my journey to running a 5k last year, and I don't want that to be the end of it. However, it's always hardest to get back into something when you've broken that habit, and sometimes you need a little motivation.
I've been looking at a few races and eventually just decided to bite the bullet and entered the She Runs Windsor 10k on the 6th May! This is a women's only race around Windsor Park, with an "expotique" held over the weekend that promises wine tasting, massages, inspirational talks, tea and cake, champagne, a smoothie bar, as well as free health checks and sports nutrition guidance.

I may also have roped some friends into training with me! (Nothing like a bit of peer pressure - sorry guys, haha) It will really help to have other people to keep me on track however, and even though we can't physically train together we can hold each other accountable and offer encouragement so we all reach our end goal πŸ™‚
I'm pretty excited! And a little bit scared if I'm totally honest, but I didn't think I could run a 5k last year so here's to proving myself wrong again this year.
I've joined my local gym which is a PureGym- only Β£25.99 a  month and open 24/7, so no excuses for not exercising if the weather is inclement for running outside. Despite being a more basic setup than my previous gym (Bannatynes) and with no pool/sauna/jacuzzi, they do still offer a reasonable selection of classes so I can rekindle my love of Spinning and Body Pump (even if they're not the actual Les Mills routines).

So 14weeks to train for a 10k and get 2013 off to a proper start, only a month late πŸ™‚

LET'S DO THIS!
