On Saturday Mark and I went into London for a late breakfast and some exploring around Soho. This eclectic area has many great-looking cafes and restaurants, and after some prior research we ended up at
Bill's.
I ordered the vegetarian breakfast which came with two poached eggs, tomatoes, houmous, mushrooms, guacamole, sweet chilli sauce and toast. I also added bubble and squeak for an extra pound (the other option was baked beans).
Mark opted for the eggs royale- smoked salmon with poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and mixed seeds on toast.
We both also ordered juices - me a fresh orange, and Mark a raspberry, peach and mango juice which came with a large chunk of melon on the side. Both were very colourful and lovely and refreshing!
The restaurant in Soho is large and was very busy on Sunday although we were shown to a table straight away, unlike the nearby branch in Covent Garden where the queue was out the door (so it's well worth walking the extra 10minutes!).
The decor was the current indie mix of rustic and modern, with bare pipes and chunky wooden tables interspersed with candles and chandeliers. I liked the feel of the place, and despite the busy-ness the service was attentive and quick.
My only complaint would be that for the size of the portions (Mark was still hungry with only 1 slice of toast - I gave him some bubble and squeak...) the prices are quite high. My breakfast cost Β£10 and although it was absolutely lovely, the cost didn't compare so well to other places where I've had equally yummy breakfasts for a lot less. I would also have liked to have been given the option to choose wholewheat/multigrain bread instead of white, as I'm not such a fan, but that's just me being picky!
Another interesting feature of Bill's worth mentioning, although we didn't try it on this occasion, is their table ordering service for items from the shop. You tick boxes on a sheet of things you would like to buy, the waiter/waitress bring them over at the end of your meal, and the cost is just added to your bill. This seemed like a nice idea, although if you're not familiar with the products and would like to view them in person before buying it doesn't work so well. They definitely had a good selection of some tasty sounding treats though!
