The restaurant itself is spacious with lots of tables, high ceilings and a minimalist vibe which is so popular at the moment (bare pipes, wooden tables)! Unfortunately weekend brunch is the worst time to come to Caravan it transpires, as it was heaving with a pretty long queue. I arrived before my friend at about 12:15pm so was able to get us on the list for a table, and was told it would be at least a half hour wait. Brunch is served from 10am-4pm and tables can't be booked in advance so it's just a case of turn up and queue.
After about 10mins I was able to move to the bar at the back of the restaurant however, which made the waiting infinitely more bearable. I sat on a bar stool with my bag of flour (which had the reservation number on) and ordered a flat white- the coffee was average, with a rather acidic after taste unfortunately, perhaps just my tastebuds but a little disappointing considering they're well known for they're roasted in-house coffee.
When Jo arrived we were very quickly afterward shown to a table, and presented with menus on clipboards. I was pretty starving by this point so we ordered reasonably quickly, both opting for the "Smoked haddock and leek rarebit, poached eggs, rocket Β£8.50". The menu has loads of quirky options for brunch and I'd love to come back and try some of the other dishes- everything we saw going past our table looked amazing!
I also ordered a berry and yoghurt smoothie (Β£4.50) which was so fruity and fresh, I loved it! Jo had ordered a coffee at the bar which didn't arrive before we were shown to our table (at which point the flour bag number was removed) so that had to be chased up, but the service was attentive and friendly.
Our food arrived pretty quickly and was very tasty! The cheesy haddock and leek was a brilliant combination with the runny poached eggs, and I ate every crumb.
