The June issue of Om Yoga magazine is out now!
This months issue is packed with great articles, including one on "Sneaky Office Yoga" which definitely jumped out at me.
As someone who spends all day sitting slumped at my desk, working away, I found this particularly interesting.
Sneaky Office Yoga
The idea is to use some of the techniques you practise on the mat to bring new awareness to your desk, enabling you to focus on your tasks and feel less stressed.
1. Breathe
Something as simple as taking a deep breath before you respond or the tried-and-tested "counting to ten" technique for not losing your temper are good examples. But if you make sure you're breathing (calmly) throughout the day with the accompanying bodily posture to allow it, most unnecessary mental and physical stress will dissolve.
2. Listen
This can include listening to others, but listening to yourself is just as important. Beginning with small work events and stresses, learn to pause as long as you can and listen to the dialogue of your thoughts. Sort through what's rational and irrational.
This will help you to improve the precision of your work, and mean you can stay calm and choose your responses wisely in difficult situations!
3. Connect
The first two techniques allow you to develop more awareness at work, and hopefully with your new clarity of mind you can feel the connection - someone somewhere is benefiting from what you do, and you can feel that too.
Bring yourself to work and see what happens!
If you're looking for some yoga poses to do at your desk, this is a great video by the lovely Erin Motz - Yoga for the Office.
