I haven't done one of these posts for a few months, and in all honesty I wasn't going to this month either- I've felt a little stuck since my Half Marathon . My hip injury seems to feel like it's getting better then suddenly flares up again, and I don't want to set big goals I can't achieve.
And after 9months of confusion in my personal life (including giving things a go with my ex and it failing), I feel like I'm experiencing deja vu and not feeling great.
Therefore I thought making some new goals would be a good way to focus, to help keep me on track towards a more positive outlook.
And there's no shame in setting yourself a goal and reassessing at a later date. It simply gives you something to aim for and another opportunity to try again if you don't make it.
August
Running 3x per week- training for Ealing Half Marathon
I still don't know if I will be able to make it to the start line of this race, and I probably won't be able to tell until I start my "long runs". I've decided to run them by time instead of miles and not really pay attention to pace, just go by how my body feels. Yesterday I did 40mins which felt good at the time although my hip was a bit achey afterwards.
Body Balance and/or Yoga 1/2x per week
I love Body Balance! This is a definite keeper in my schedule and I'm hoping to introduce my sister to it when I visit her later this month. I'd also like to include a Yoga Class once a week, but the one I attend at my Virgin Active gym is on a Saturday, so on busy weekends I will try to sub for a free Sweaty Betty session or some home practise.
1x per week Circuits/Spinning/Body Pump (some sort of Cross-training)
Lunchtime circuits with Steph are a fun way to add in some strengthening exercises! And there are plenty of other class options at the gym that I can use to mix up my routine and complement running, as well as keep some variety in my workout schedule so I don't get bored.
Spitfire Scramble
This is a bit of a scary goal. Leah and Team Naturally Run won a free team entry into the Spitfire Scramble and I'd put my name down, not really thinking we would get in. So now I've agreed to push myself out of my comfort zone by participating in a race where we (as a team of 8) try and run as many 5.7mile laps as we can in 24hours! I'm excited and just a little bit nervous, both of not being able to run that far due to my hip and the thought of running in the dark...But the team spirit and thought of spending a weekend camping, running and chilling with an amazing group of ladies is pretty awesome 🙂
Home projects
I only moved into my flat in March so there's still a lot of things I'd like to do to make it "more me", including:
- bookshelves above my sofa
- more photos and art on the walls
- getting my race bibs framed or presented in a fun way
- pots and plants on my terraces
One of the things on my list was to get a desk, which I did this weekend! It needs a little tidying and organising but looks pretty good I think.
Physio exercises and foam rolling
Honestly I should just keep this as a permanent fixture in all my goals lists really- it seems like if I don't keep on top of the foam rolling and flexibility work, my body has a tantrum and decides it won't function properly!
Enjoy the rest of the summer
So 6months into 2014, here are my mid-year goals! It seems to have gone so quickly, and with some things not exactly panning out how I'd hoped, I want to ensure I make the most of the rest of 2014. With this in mind, my final goal is just to get out and enjoy the rest of the summer! It's so easy when you're feeling sad to sit inside and let things pass you by, but I don't want this year to feel like a waste ( I know I have achieved a lot, but when things go wrong- my hip injury, my relationship (again)- it makes you feel like everything is falling apart) .
I want to embrace opportunities (such as the Spitfire Scramble) and not be afraid to do things on my own- I went to a production of Midsummer Nights Dream in my local park on Saturday evening and it was brilliant! I'm also going to visit my sister for a long weekend this month, so there should be lots of fun stuff there too 🙂
Anyway, this turned into a bit of a waffly post! Here's to a fresh mid-year start 🙂 What are you hoping to do this August?
