Winter Running: Winter Races

I updated you on my knee progress in my last blog post - it's an overuse issue exacerbated by my biomechanics, something which can most definitely be managed, so I'm still planning my race schedule for next year! But with an element of caution of course.

After having a pretty long break from training and running long distances, I know it will take me a while to build up my endurance again, and I also want to make sure that the problem is uunder control before I start upping the miles!

Still I couldn't resist adding a couple of fun races to my plan...

Greenwich Park 5k

This was (and still is) a new 5k PB for me last year, and I loved donning my bright flowery leggings and tackling the hills with the ladies of Team Naturally Run.

Even thought team founder Leah is now (almost) back home in New Zealand we're heading back to Greenwich for another festive race complete with Christmas Pudding medal and mince pies!

I know I'm nowhere near as fit as I was this time last year, so there won't be any new records broken but I'm looking forward to planning a fun Christmas running outfit - I've even managed to persuade one of the girls at work to join me for her first ever race.

Winter Run 10k London

I also ran this race last year- a 10k round the streets of London, complete with snow zones and polar bear hugs and I'm so looking forward to heading back for more in 2016! This year the Winter Run series is taking over the country with 10k races taking place in numerous locations including London- enter the code SIMPELLE to get £3 off your entry.

I will be tackling the London route again on 31st January, which has been slightly tweaked to include a ski-themed drinks station and a snow blast-off at the start line - sounds awesome! Who fancies joining me?

And after that?

I'd love to run another half marathon next Spring, but will be seeing how training for the Winter Run 10k goes and how my knee feels before I book in anything for definite.

Feel free to share any suggestions for great half marathons to look at though! I did Brighton last year which I loved...

I'm also eyeing up the Trailscape races - I did the Ashurst 10k last January, and would love to take part in another of the offroad challenges. I'm unfortunately busy on the date of the South race next year but might look into the West race in Wendover in March.

What races have you got lined up to motivate you through the winter months?

Sorry to hear about your knee problems - but sounds like you have good plans ahead and are being sensible about it. I detest 5ks (apart from parkruns) and 10ks...I'm far more into longer distances! But I don't have any goal races until next year as I gently get back into running after my injury break.
