Ride London - I got in!

I returned home yesterday evening to some exciting and slightly scary mail. I entered the ballot for Ride London, the same as I entered the ballot for the London Marathon - not really expecting to get in, and not 100% sure if I really wanted to do it! But we should all do things that scare us a little, right?

So when I ripped open the packet yesterday my heart lurched as I saw the word "Congratulations". I haven't been cycling for a looong while, and now have until the 31st July to build up to being able to ride 100 miles! More than a little daunting.

My road bike is actually currently damaged so I'm holding off paying for my place until I've got it fixed, or at least found out how much it will cost to get it fixed. But considering that I got a place and so many people didn't, I do really want to give it a good go at least.

As well as all the adverts, the magazine is quite useful, with a simple beginners 16-week training plan and advice on nutrition, cycling safely and tackling hills- something I will definitely need to look at.

The longest distance I've ridden so far is 40miles, with a lunch break in the middle, so I know 100 will be a challenge- if you have taken part in previous years, please do share your top tips!

I will definitely be scoping out lots of cycling bloggers for advice though - hey Lucy Lunges 🙂

Are you in? What's the biggest challenge you've taken on?

Good luck! And congratulations! How exciting. I have never done anything like that- I did an 18 mile ride for charity when I was a teenager, but that was enough for me! You will get there though- it's like a marathon- the final distance seems daunting but as you work gradually up to it, your body and mind gets used to it.

Well done! I might fancy entering that ballot one year.
I"ve not been cycling long, but my biggest challenge was the Etape Caledonia last year. 81 miles of apocalyptic rain and some "character building" hills :-0 Looking back, I can hardly believe it was me that did it!
