Even though we're experiencing a heatwave in London at the moment, the weather at the weekend was fairly horrible! The joy of living in Britain means that from one day to the next you can literally transition from summer to winter with entirely different weather systems!
However, that didn't stop me from heading down to the south coast for a quick trip to the beach - I love listening to the sound of the waves, and walking along the shoreline looking for interesting rocks and shells. It's one of the most peaceful and relaxing places and somewhere I can totally switch off, even if I am pretty much drenched with rain and sea spray!
We decided to go to West Wittering near Chichester, which is not an area of the coast I've visited before. It has a huge Blue Flag sandy beach, and is very popular with kite surfers, particularly on such a windy day. The waves were choppy but came in for a long way due to the shallow gradient of the beach, and on a calm day I can imagine it's great for paddling - although I'm afraid it was too cold for me to brave that on Saturday!
As is traditional at the seaside, we enjoyed fish and chips from a shop just up the road in East Wittering, before warming up in the car with a cup of tea and several games of cards whilst admiring the view.
It may not have been ideal, but a grey dismal day actually turned out to be pretty enjoyable. Proof that British weather needn't put you off from having a fun day out!
Have you been anywhere in the rain recently?

Sometimes it is refreshing to have that sort of weather- blows away all the cobwebs!
