So I know it's nearly the end of Week 2 now, but I wanted to do a recap of Jantastic Week 1 first!
The idea of Jantastic is simple- to motivate you to get out there and run!
How to get involved:
- Check out the www.jantastic.me website for all the info
- Sign up as an individual or join a team for motivation, support and friendly rivalries!
- Choose your target number of runs per week - I opted for 3.
- Get out there and get logging those runs!
The theme of this week has been water - all of my runs have taken me alongside the river and it's been pretty soggy, as I'm sure a lot of the country is right now... I love running next to water as it's so relaxing, but I have had to take a few detours to avoid my run turning into a swim, eeek!

No running here.... |
I'm loosely following a Beginner Half Marathon Training Plan at the moment, from the Runner's World Complete Guide to Women's Running (came free with my subscription a while ago).
My Google Drive spreadsheet |
The plan builds up over 12 weeks, using run/walk intervals based on time rather than distance. Seeing as I didn't run much at the end of last year due to ITB issues (haven't run more than about 5k since the Women's Running 10k in September) I'm happy to move things along quite slowly, and create a strong base over the next couple of months.
The run/walk intervals also allow me to play a bit with speed, ie. run faster in the shorter intervals, and get longer quite gradually so hopefully I shouldn't feel the increase is too steep. I'm also repeating a few of the weeks in the middle to make it 16weeks, which will take me up to the end of March with a final long run of 2hours on a 15min run/5min walk setting.
Any tips for what to do after that? I will probably switch to a plan based on mileage with constant running, but am not sure whether to continue from where I will have got to, as I will still have nearly 2months until my half?
