Winter Goals with the London Winter Run 10k

It can be hard to remain motivated as the days get shorter, the mornings darker and the evenings colder. However, I do love running throughout this season - there's something exciting about exploring places after dark, with the iconic City buildings lit up or offroad trails requiring headtorches to negotiate safely!

One way to stay focused and make sure you keep getting out there is to give yourself something to aim for. To that end, I'm tackling the London Winter Run 10k on the 5th February and will be joining the new Winter Run Club led by the lovely Elle (at KeepItSimpElle) at the Timberyard pop-up in Boxpark, Shoreditch every Thursday.

Winter Running Goals

Starting from 4-6km for the first few runs, week by week, the casual run club will be building up the distance slowly with a focus on a friendly, inclusive atmosphere and leaving no-one behind - something that definitely sounds good to me! Check outย the Facebook group here if you fancy getting involved.

I've taken part in the London Winter Run 10k for the last two years, and it's such a fun race to do.ย The 2017 event promises to be even better with an iconic Central London route on closed roads, a Snow "Blast-Off" at the start line, Penguin Party en-route and the deserved Polar Bear hugs at the finish! Plus the medal last year was really lovely and shaped like a snowflake - I wonder what they will come up with for 2017?

New running gearย also makes things more exciting - these fab Reflective Print Running Leggings from TLC Sportย are definitely going to be part of my winter workout kit with their awesomeย Reflective 'X' print on the lower leg. This photo doesn't really do them justice, but the print is designed to reflectย against headlights to ensure that you stay seen and safe, and get noticed for all the right reasons!

What with a race goal, new kit and a weekly catch up with like-minded fitness fansย I should have no excuses not to keep lacing up my running shoes this winter!

Races definitely keep me motivated during the winter - if I know there is a race coming up and I don't want to totally suffer, I know I have to put in the training, so it's pretty good motivation!

I think I'm gonna enter the Winter Run again this year, It's always a fun race and I love the medals!

The winter run medal was really pretty- I did enjoy it but it is expensive for a 10k- I am not sure I would do it this year unless a lot of friends were also running it. I like having a race to look forward to, but really I like winter running as the cup of tea and warm shower after feel so much more earned!

Definitely look forward to a cup of tea and a shower after a winter run! You feel very smug for the rest of the day ๐Ÿ™‚
