It's Snack Time! Popchips Review

That 3oclock slump in energy at work can often leave me searching my desk drawers for a quick snack!
I love nakd bars, apple and cashew butter, or some almonds, and now here is another option...
Popchips were created in California, and are a line of potato chips (crisps), popped with heat and pressure to make them healthier.
They contain less than half the fat of fried crisps, and each 23g bag is less than 100 calories per serving.
Popchips also pledge to contain no fake colours or flavours, no preservatives or other unnatural ingredients like hydrogenated oils and msg.
Stats for the salt and pepper popchips
This could leave you thinking they're going to have all the taste and flavour appeal of eating a cardboard box but you'd be wrong!
I enlisted the help of my friend Ali at work to test the popchips out - she's a vegan and was excited to discover she was able to eat several of the flavours - plus points already πŸ™‚
(sour cream and onion, and barbecue flavour contain buttermilk, sour cream and whey powder)

My favourite flavour
This was Ali's verdict:

"For the salt and pepper ones, I would say they were very good...just the right amount of pepper to give it a kick but not too much! They were also not too salty which can sometimes happen with chips. I would give them a 9/10 (the only reason it was not 10/10 was because I wanted more chips in the packet...but that's just me being greedy!) I tried the salt and vinegar ones too, which were ok but I prefer snacks with a bit more of a flavour kick."

I tasted the sour cream and onion which was my favourite - tangy and full of flavour. The barbecue was tasty as well, although perhaps a little more artificial and had quite a strong after-taste. Overall the crisps were light and crunchy, and didn't leave you with greasy fingers after eating a packet.
I'm not a big crisp eater (about the only things I love are Mini Cheddars, haha) and of course eating a fruit/vegetable snack is always going to be the best option if you're feeling a little peckish. But there are times when you just fancy a bag of crisps, or want to participate in a movie night/girlie evening/social gathering but snack on something a little healthier- here popchips are a great choice!

What would your favourite flavour be? Are you a crisp fan?
Popchips also sent me some tips for dealing with the dreaded afternoon daze...

Top tips for avoiding the snackered slump

  1. be prepared. have snacks ready for when energy slumps hit.
  2. check the small print. looks for snacks that won’t blow your daily calorie intake. at less than 100 calories a pack popchips are an ideal snackered treat!
  3. get moving. keep your snacks away from your desk so you go for a walk to pick them up. a quick break from the computer can do wonders!
  4. snack tasty. keep healthy yummy snacks accessible. if you deny yourself your favourite snacks, you’ll just need up craving for them and over-doing it. try popcorn, a small packet of nuts and raisins, popchips, olives, a handful of almonds or frozen tubes of fromage-frais.
