Greenwich Park Christmas 5k

It wouldn't be December without a festive race to end the year, and it's become a bit of a tradition for that to be the RunThrough Greenwich Park 5k. It's so fantastically well organised and with a great festive atmosphere, that even though I had been feeling significantly under the weather the last few days I wasn't missing it for anything!

This year I had a new partner in crime to don a Santa hat with and sprint for those mince pies - meet James πŸ™‚ We've been together since February but have kept things fairly quiet for a number of reasons. He's definitely been joining me on a lot of my active adventures this year though! So far he's kept out of the photos that make it onto the blog, but with the go-ahead to include him in this race recap and exciting fitness things planned for the New Year you will hopefully be seeing a lot more of this cheeky smiling face in 2017!

As for the 5k, well, it was a grey, foggy morning and my running was slow and wheezy but I loved it. James and I ran together, laughing at the brilliant costumes worn by some of the more creative runners (inflatable turkey ftw), and just had fun. I always find that when I get ill my asthma flares up unfortunately, and running without music where I can hear my own breathing can be a bit scary, so it was great to have things to distract me!

How long the "couples who run together" thing will last I don't know, but for now I'm stupidly happy that someone is willing to stick at my "tortoise stampeding through peanut butter" pace and actually enjoy it! And according to the timing chips, I crossed the line 1 second before him anyway...

Did you run a Christmas race this year? Any outlandish costumes?Β

This brings my 2016 race total to 10, including 2 cycling races which I'm pretty happy with! Check out the RacesΒ page on the blog for all my recaps.

Your green top is fab- I love it! I remember when I ran with Andy, he would still be walking and I would be running! Not good for the confidence!
I did a festive five last weekend- someone had a massive santa suit complete with stick on tummy- very good. Although it was a two lap course and each time I ran past one marshal he told me he liked my antlers. Of course I had on my Christmas leggings too.
