Whilst I may not have been getting any long runs in recently, Crossfit has definitely kept me on my toes with the shorter distances! Most sessions will involve a round-the-block lap (~800m) to warm up, and the last two WODs I did also included "sprints" - although I wasn't particularly fast!
"Helen"
3 RFT (rounds for time)
400m run
21 KBS (kettlebell swings)
12 pull-ups
I managed the Rx weight for the KBS, but man, I can't do pull ups!
"Nancy"
5 RFT
400m run
15 OHS (overhead squats)
I only used 15kg for the squats (Rx weight for women 30kg, ouch!) and finished in about 18minutes (forgot to write my time on the board, as so did everyone else apparently- perhaps we were too exhausted!)
NB: In case you were wondering, "what's with the girls names?", Crossfit benchmark workouts are given female names. These are repeatable WODs that you can measure your progress against over time. The idea behind the names is based on the US National Weather Service naming storms, and as Greg Glassman, the founder of Crossfit put it:
"I want to explain the workout once and then give it a name. I thought that anything that left you flat on your back, looking up at the sky asking βwhat just happened to me?β deserved a females name. Workouts are just like storms, they wreak havoc on towns".
Nice.
On Sunday Mark and I went on a long bike ride (well, long for me) through the Surrey countryside. It's really nice once you get outside the main urban areas, and end up cycling along country lanes with tractors and fields full of cows - makes me miss living in Norfolk!
We had a brief stop in Cobham to check the map and chill by the river for a few minutes - it was a gorgeous day!
Then we headed on for a few more miles, before refuelling at the Black Swan in Ockham. This is a really nice pub, I highly recommend if you're in the area - we had dinner here with Mark's parents for his birthday and the food was great.
A round trip of 17.3miles with a break halfway, not bad really. I'll make that century yet! π
What's your personal distance record? I've never run more than 6.2miles but cycling seems to build up easier...
