Bank Holiday sunshine meant I had to get out on my bike - more time in the saddle to get more confident plus soaking up some of the last summer rays!
I didn't want to go too far so mapped out a route near home- I'm ambitious but still wanted to enjoy my ride rather than not having the energy to cycle back!
I headed towards Cobham, ending up at The Medicine Garden for lunch.
The Medicine Garden was a derelict Victorian walled garden which has been given a new lease of life, and is now a place that provides "medicine for the soul".
It's still a work in progress, with several guys laying paths and other workers spray painting tiles whilst I was there, but it was a lovely space to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
The Hothouse Cafe serves sandwiches, tea and cakes in an actual Victorian hothouse , with seating also available outside in the garden.
There are also various other small independent businesses in the courtyard behind the garden to browse through, including The Garden Shop which sells gifts, The Treatment Room offering massages, and soothing beauty treatments, The Larder Farm Shop stocked with local produce, fresh bread and seasonal vegetables (yum!) and The Art Shed - a cooperative of local artists selling their creations.
Events are often held in the garden space, and there are even Tai Chi and Yoga classes! Truly a hidden gem... If you're in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by.
The cycling itself was great fun - especially riding without a backpack as I do when commuting, I felt much lighter!
Where have you explored recently? Any hidden gems in your neighbourhood?
