Autumn Races with On Running

Running is one of my favourite things to do as the autumnal days start to appear, and the nights draw in. Yes, it's hard to feel like heading outside when the weather is abysmal but generally I love pounding the pavements in the evenings lit up like a Christmas tree, or taking to the trails to crunch the fallen leaves.

That's not to say I'm wishing away the warm and sunny weather just yet! Running in a vest top is definitely still much appreciated thank you September.

But if you're finding yourself lacking motivation, signing up for a race is a great option as it gives you a goal to aim for and a reason to train. I have a couple of races coming up after Tough Mudder (eek) which I'm really excited about!

I am an ambassador for the Women's Running 10k Race Series and will be taking part in the Finsbury Park race on the 8th October. I've done their events before and they're always so amazingly supportive and friendly - great for all abilities. And as the 10k is one week before the Manchester Half Marathon on 15th October, it will be the perfect taper event to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere before the challenge of the half!

The plan I've been following is of my own devising, and only incorporates two runs per week - I've written about this before, but I prefer to mix it up and do different activities alongside running. This works well with the Tough Mudder training too, where I've been doing Circuits to build my strength, and Spinning and Yoga classes just for variety.

The weather loves to keep me on my toes with variety too as you can see in the below video which I put together with my new GoPro! I am in LOVE with my new toy - it's the Hero 5 - a joint purchase between James and myself to document our outdoor adventures. Let me know if you have any tips on video editing, or the best mounts to use for running/cycling/hiking?

My favourite piece of clothing at the moment that is an absolute essential for the changeable British weather is the On Running Lightweight Cap - it's great at keeping the sun out of my eyes, and my head cool with the lightweight, breathable fabric. Yet, when the rain starts pouring down it stops it getting in my face - and the cap dries really quickly, so your head doesn't stay soggy when the sun comes out again! Perfect.

My training is going pretty well so far, and I'm feeling good about the races in October although I'm fully aware that a half marathon is never going to be an easy task for me! Still, fast and flat, it pretty much promises a PB so I'm going in with positive expectations.

How do you deal with the changeable weather? Any upcoming races?ย

NB: I was provided with an On Running Cap to review but as always all opinions are my own.ย
