Random Recipe: Valentines Day

For this weeks Random Recipe I'm actually going to cheat a little and do a review of the Valentines Day meal that Mark and I had from Marks and Spencer.
We don't really buy into the commercialism of the day (why only express your love one day a year and pay extortionate prices to do so?!), but couldn't resist the meal deals that some of the different stores were offering- Waitrose and M+S were definitely the best.

Β£20 for a starter, main course, dessert, bottle of wine and chocolates- yes please!

We had scallops with a creamy white wine mash (loved the presentation- I've actually washed and saved the shells...)
Followed by king prawn and haddock filo pie, with potato rosti cakes (and caramelised carrots which we made ourselves). This was the simple option, with both items just needing to be put in the oven and left- and they tasted great too.
Dessert was a lovely chocolatey raspberry tart, which we heated in the oven, and then served with some vanilla ice cream. Gorgeous! It wasn't too heavy or rich, and the raspberry was a lovely fruity addition.
The wine which we chose to go with our meal was a Petit Chablis which supposedly retails for Β£8.99 normally, so was a pretty good bargain with all the food as well for Β£20. It was really nice, fruity and not too strong - went well with the seafood dishes.
We also had a chocolate selection in the shape of hearts (aww) - caramel, choc truffle and praline. We were actually pretty stuffed by this point, so ended up eating them the following day but they were really nice!
All in all a great option if you want to have a chilled out romantic meal at home, and avoid the crowds and overly inflated prices in restaurants.
NB: Mark and I actually had this meal on the Friday so I could enjoy my wine without having to worry about getting up for work the next day! πŸ™‚
