Meet miss wheezy
30-something outdoor & fitness Blogger
Hi! I'm Beki aka Miss Wheezy.
I live in Bedfordshire with my family and am passionate about promoting an active lifestyle, incorporating movement and adventure into the everyday.
I became Mummy to my little boy Arthur in 2023, and am now learning how to juggle my fitness exploits with the fun of exploring alongside a toddler. My goal is to make sure I keep moving through motherhood!
ASTHMA
I've had asthma since I was a child. It made PE in school a pretty horrible experience, especially Cross Country. Although there is no cure for asthma, there are treatments that can reduce the risk of attacks - I took 2 inhalers every day, to prevent and relieve the symptoms.
Fortunately as with a lot of people, the condition improved as I got older. While I still struggle with it when I get sick or the weather is really cold, on a day-to-day basis I rarely notice my asthma anymore. It's definitely still a challenge I face with my fitness goals, but I'm grateful as to how much a regular exercise schedule has actually significantly improved my health.
RUNNING
Like many people, my running journey began by following the Couch to 5k programme, culminating in a Race for Life event back in 2012. I was so proud to run it all, no matter how slowly and couldn't wait to move onto the next challenge. Since returning to running after having my son in 2023, I followed the C25k plan as a way to build up my fitness again after giving birth. I completed my first post-baby 5k race in Setember 2024 at the Bedford Running Festival, an achievement I'm incredibly proud of.
I know I'm never going to be particularly speedy or set any records, but running for me is about more than that - it shows me what I'm capable of, it's my headspace and therapy, it gives me the chance to explore new places, and spend time with people who share my passion. Since becoming a mother, it's also about retaining a little of pre-baby me and getting half an hour to myself once in a while!
CYCLING
After cycling a lot as a child, I then didn't get back in the saddle until 2013 when I was persuaded to take on the London Duathlon in Richmond Park. I wobbled my way around the Super Sprint distance and have since gone on to complete London to Brighton and RideLondon 100 multiple times, as well as venturing off-road for some muddy adventures! I can't wait to introduce my son to the wonderful world of exploring on two wheels and the sense of freedom it gives me.
OUTDOOR
My family and I love travelling and exploring the UK. We are huge fans of camping, particularly in the Lake District - a favourite spot of ours - and we also love exploring a National Trust property. Since having my son in 2023, our outdoor adventures have been a little more local, but looking at the world through a toddler's eyes is a great opportunity to view things differently and appreciate the small wonders.
