outdoor Christmas gift guide 2024

With less than a month to go until the festive season, here is this year's Christmas gift guide with some of my top present suggestions for outdoor adventure lovers. Or perhaps some things to put on your own shopping list for the Black Friday / January sales...

  1. A warm winter coat

It's taken a while for the cold winter weather to set in - I was still running in short sleeves in October - but we're definitely in 'big coat' season now. I've been loving this adidas Terrex down jacket which is perfect for chilly walks in the countryside, or for zipping up on the early morning nursery run. It's filled with responsibly-sourced down to keep you super cosy and has a large hood as well.

2. New shoes

Whether the person you are gifting to needs some new walking boots or new trail running shoes, there are plenty of options that can see you through the colder, wetter, winter months in comfort. Nobody wants wet feet when they're out on a hike, so I highly recommend choosing a pair which have a Goretex membrane like the Terrex Free Hiker I mentioned in my blog post on babywearing adventures. These are still one of my favourite options for comfortable, durable footwear when I'm heading out on outdoor adventures, even if that's just around the fields near our house.

3. Drink holder

This could be a snazzy new water bottle to take out on a run, such as the flexible Decathlon trail water bottle which collapses down and can be easily stuffed in a pocket once empty. Or you could gift someone a new thermos for that cup of tea mid-hike. I'm a big fan of the Yeti Rambler Tumbler at the moment, which is the perfect size for a cuppa. The double-wall vacuum insulation keeps things hot but not too like molten lava that you can't drink it. Plus you can put both the cup and lid in the dishwasher when you get home, which is perfect!

4. Cosy accessories

As you can see in the photos in this post, I'm wearing the same beige fluffy hat a lot at the moment, despite having a drawer full of options at home! This particular cosy beanie is actually from H&M who do great affordable options for winter (and have a fab Black Friday sale on). We also picked up Arthur some waterproof booties from H&M, which he wore in the pushchair or baby carrier before he started walking. They are elasticated so baby is less able to pull them off as they always do with socks too!

5. TIME

All mums (and other busy people) would love more time this Christmas! That might be an hour to themselves to just read a book, drink a hot cup of tea and enjoy some peace and quiet, or maybe your loved one would relish some time to head out on their own solo adventures. Creating the opportunity for them to enjoy a walk in the woods, a run or any other chosen adventure this festive season is bound to make you the best present giver ever!

Of course, we all want more time with our little ones too and for time to stop rushing by so quickly. I can't believe that Arthur is going to be two in February. It honestly just feels like yesterday that he was a tiny newborn. Everyone tells you to 'beware the terrible twos' but I'm enjoying it all so much, and am loving seeing him grow and develop into his own little person. I think this is such a fun age for adventures and it's great now being able to talk and share all the exciting things we're doing together. Who knows what 2025 will bring!

What's on your Christmas list this year?
