June Goals : Crossfit

Happy beginning of June and the official start of summer! The weather has obligingly been moderately nice this weekend on cue and I hope you’ve all had a chance to enjoy getting outside πŸ™‚

The start of any new month is a chance to refresh your list of goals for the year, and I’m taking the opportunity to reassess after a few busy months!

Energizer Night Run 5k, She Runs Windsor 10k and Nike We Own The Night 10k!

I’ve already ticked off one of my New Years Resolutions – “run a 10k race“, in fact I’ve done two! I ran SheRunsWindsor and the Nike We Own The Night 10ks and really enjoyed both of them. I’ve also got the Women’s Running 10k in September, with a new PB to aim for there!

I also feel like I’ve sort of completed “run with a running group” too after attending some of the Nike/Elle training sessions at Niketown London, as well as going along to the Team Naturally Run training session organised by Leah. It at least got me to overcome my fear of training with other people and not being able to keep up!

Next up on the list is “try Crossfit“, and guess what? I’ve got my first intro class tomorrow evening, eek!

For those who haven’t come across Crossfit before here’s a quick summary:

“CrossFit uses a blend of gymnastic elements, Olympic weightlifting movements, kettle bell exercises and other real world activities to improve the ten components of fitness: strength, power, speed, stamina, cardio-respiratory endurance, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and flexibility.” Source

I’m looking forward to trying something new, in particular something more focused on increasing my strength and muscles! Most of the sports I have participated in previously – netball, dance, rowing, running – have been predominantly endurance and cardio based so this will be a new challenge πŸ™‚

I have a 3month membership with Crossfit Vauxhall – they’re currently offering the Foundations CourseΒ (3 x 1hr sessions to cover the basics)Β for FREE if you sign up for a 3month membership, therefore saving you Β£155 so check it out if you’re interested! (they also have aΒ Crossfit Central LondonΒ box (gym) near Southwark) I’ll keep you posted with how I get on!

Food-wise I’m looking to add more fruit and veg into my diet – it’s much more appealing to snack on fresh fruit and eat crunchy salads in the summer when the weather’s nicer I find! One of the other ways I’m hoping to achieve this is through smoothies, particularly green smoothies- a cheat way of sneaking things which are really good for you into your meals!

Here’s one I whipped up the other day- looks gross, tasted great! πŸ™‚

What are your goals for June?

I’m still working on the heels… πŸ˜›

  1. Gonna try and go to running club every week! Went for the first time last week and really enjoyed it- so motivating. I never ever wear heels, so hope you do better than me with that!

  2. That smoothie sounds lovely- I always find you can never taste the spinach in them, especially if there is banana in the smoothie.I have a half marathon to do next weekend, and I want to beat my previous time on the same course, so keeping my fingers crossed that it is not a baking hot day.

  3. Haha yeah I'm not very good at wearing heels either, flats are so much more comfortable! Good luck with the running club πŸ™‚

  5. A Spinach, blueberry and banana smoothie is my favourite! Especially with some greek yogurt, yum! I've been dong CrossFit for about three months now and really enjoy it, I hope you do too!

  6. That's great – it's good to hear from people who've tried it, as I know it can be quite a controversial topic! Will have to try adding yoghurt to my smoothies, that sounds yummy πŸ™‚
